Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, formed in April 1995, is a provider of general mental health services for Bromley, Bexley and Greenwich, and a specialist provider of Forensic and Challenging Behaviour services for Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham, North Southwark, Bromley, and Learning Disability Services for Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley.
Over recent years the Trust has expanded its range of services and now provides Community Health Services in Bexley and Greenwich and a wide range of Prison/forensic services (physical and mental health) in Kent. The Trust was rated as a 3 star organisation for 3 consecutive years and became one of the country’s first mental health foundation trusts in May 2006. Oxleas has been at the forefront of IT developments, New Ways of Working for the Psychiatrists and NICE Guidelines implementation. It was the first Mental Health Trust in London to fully implement RiO as part of London Programme for IT and has since developed its own software solution for electronic records, Oxleas RiO.
As an organisation Oxleas sees itself as offering the best practice in ‘needs led technology’ that has been implemented through the electronic care records, and an intranet system to support best clinical practice.
We are seeking to recruit a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist within the West Bromley Primary Care Plus Team on a full time substantive basis.
The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively with the Team Manager and other professionals, to manage large numbers of referrals mainly from GPs but also from other agencies, in a clinically safe, timely, efficient and resource saving manner, ideally managing straightforward cases and treatments without the need for referral into either of the main long term teams. GP liaison and satisfaction is paramount, and so the post involves a lot of GP contact, both by phone and also arranging and attending meetings at GP practices if necessary to discuss the service or relevant aspects of patient management/care.
The successful post holder will be expected to conduct new assessment and follow up clinics, and flexibly offer assessments for urgent cases, prescribe, home visits and Mental Health Act assessments, as required. Working routinely with the MDT is an expectation. Another aspect of the post is to review cases that have been triaged and recommend initial care plans for new referrals.
We are committed to developing the careers of our medical staff and the successful applicant will be encouraged to participate fully in the continuing medical education programme.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
