Clinical Psychologist, Band 7

Specialist Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist in Kings Musculoskeletal Service (MSK Service) Bexley Care Directorate.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 clinical /counselling psychologist to work within the MSK service within the Bexley care directorate.

We would welcome applications from current Oxleas staff who would like to consider a full or part time secondment to the MSK service to develop their range of skills to include competencies and experience in Clinical Health Psychology and specifically Pain Management.

This post offers a unique opportunity to work with Kings MSK Service which comprises of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) including a Pain Management Consultant Anaesthetist, Nurse Consultant, Rheumatology Consultants, nurses, Pharmacist, Physical therapists and admin colleagues alongside an established psychology service. There will be opportunities to link with colleagues working in Mental Health Services in Bexley, as well as with colleagues in Primary Care. The Psychology service leads the provision of the interdisciplinary group Pain Management Programme RESTORE in addition to providing individual treatment for clients and carers where appropriate. While the emphasis is on pain management the psychology team also provides assessment and works in conjunction with other physical therapists where clinical health psychology is able to contribute more generally to the treatment aims of physically based therapies e.g integrating self-management approaches or working with health anxieties which may impede treatment.

We are looking for up to 1.0 WTE Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the team.   The post-holder will provide a comprehensive assessment and therapy service, individual therapy for service users and carers, be part of the team delivering the Pain Management Programme RESTORE as well as contributing to the therapeutic functions of the team, including training, supervision, consultation and psychological formulation. The post holder will be professionally accountable to the Bexley Head of MSK Service (Oxleas) and clinical supervision will be provided by a senior psychologist established in the service.

Bexley care is in innovative integrated service linking adults and older people’s services with community, social services and mental and physical health. The evolving integration offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the development of the integration within the new services.

The psychologists in the MSK Service are part of a large, well-established and supportive psychology department which is part of the Therapies Directorate within the Trust. This provides strong leadership and professional management and supports staff by prioritising supervision and continuing professional development. The strength of Oxleas Therapies Directorate is that it contains a range of specialisms that work across physical and mental health, and Oxleas places integration of physical and mental care high on it’s agenda.  There are good working relationships with both managers and other senior clinicians and psychological therapy is well represented at senior managerial and clinical levels. The input from psychologists is valued within the Trust and we undertake important roles, not only in clinical work, but also management, service development and clinical governance. The Therapies Directorate contains psychologists with extensive training and experience in cognitive, psychodynamic and systemic approaches. Service-related research is encouraged and supported by providing protected time for these activities. There are strong links with the South Thames (Salomons) Clinical Psychology Training Scheme.

Supervision in ACT, CBT, CAT, psychodynamic/mentalisation and systemic therapeutic approaches is available from senior psychologists and psychological therapists. There is access to a network of specialist supervision groups across the trust. Family and carer inclusive practice is seen as vital by the Trust, and is strongly promoted. You will be encouraged to consolidate and develop your therapeutic skills in a friendly and supportive multi-professional and multi-agency context.

The post provides the opportunity to receive regular weekly CPD experience in other psychology services across the trust.
